Getting started

How do I add my partner, co-parent or another grown-up?

In the Family tab, tap Add family member, then A grown-up, and type their name or tap Choose from Contacts. Hivetime makes an invite link and code just for that person. Tap Send in Messages (when your iPhone can send texts) or Share or AirDrop, let them scan the QR code, or tap Copy link. Each invite works once, for 7 days. They tap the link to join, or type the code when Hivetime asks for one. Your subscription covers them too, even if they use a different Apple Account.

My invite link doesn't work.

If you already have Hivetime, update it first (in the App Store, or in TestFlight if you're testing Hivetime), then tap the link again. Each invite works once and stops working after 7 days. If yours has run out, ask the person who invited you to send a new one. Parents can send a new one with the Invite button next to anyone in the Family tab who hasn't joined yet.

Hivetime asks me to update.

Your version of Hivetime is too old to keep working. Update it in the App Store (or in TestFlight if you're testing Hivetime), then open it again. Update it rather than deleting and reinstalling, so changes it hasn't sent yet aren't lost. If you were joining a family, tap your invite link again after you update.

How do I add a child?

In the Family tab, tap Add family member, then A child or teen. For a child under 13, you'll be asked to read and agree to our children's privacy notice first. Kids parents manage don't get a login or an invite; their events show on your family calendar and you manage them. Teens who run their own calendar can get an invite to join from their own phone.

How do the age rules work?

By default, parents manage the calendars of kids under 13, kids 13 to 15 run their own calendar and accept or decline events you propose, and kids 16 and up can also keep private events. Change these ages in the Family tab, under Age rules.

Calendars and booking links

How do I connect Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar?

Google and Outlook come in through Apple Calendar. First add the account to your iPhone: open the Settings app, tap Calendar (on iOS 18 and later it's under Apps), then Accounts or Calendar Accounts, then Add Account. Then in Hivetime, go to Settings, then Connected calendars, then Connect a calendar, and tap Apple Calendar. Pick which of your iPhone's calendars come in (Birthdays, Holidays and other subscribed calendars, like a school calendar you subscribed to, start off, so turn on any you want), then tap the Bring in button. Hivetime copies the next two weeks of events from the calendars you picked. Calendars you add to your iPhone later stay out until you pick them. Your family sees them as "Busy" unless you choose Details or Hidden next to Apple Calendar in Connected calendars. Each person chooses for their own calendars. Hivetime only reads these calendars; it never changes them.

My connected calendar isn't up to date.

Apple Calendar (with any Google or Outlook accounts on your iPhone) is copied when you connect it and each time you save your picks. To bring in newer events or change which calendars come in, go to Settings, then Connected calendars, tap Apple Calendar under your name, then tap Save. Turning a calendar off removes its events from Hivetime. To stop bringing in Apple Calendar altogether, swipe left on it. School or team calendar links refresh about every 30 minutes. If one stops updating, email us. To remove one of your calendars (or, for parents, one belonging to anyone without a login), swipe left on it in Connected calendars.

How do booking links work?

On the Calendar, tap the clock button at the top, choose Booking links, and create a new link. Choose who gets booked (the whole family, one person, or people you pick), when you're available, how long a booking is, and who can use the link. Share it by text or email. Guests open it in any web browser, see times when everyone's free, and request a time. If a booking includes a child, a parent approves it first.

Someone I don't know has my booking link.

On the Calendar, tap the clock button, then Booking links, and turn the link off, or make it a family-only link, which needs a family code. You can then make a new link with a different address and share it only with the people you want.

AI helpers

How do I scan a school calendar?

Open the Hive AI tab, tap Snap a school calendar, and take a photo or choose one. Hivetime shows every date it found. Pick the ones you want and whose calendar they go on, then tap Add. The photo is deleted after it's read.

How do I turn AI off?

A parent does this. In Settings, then Hive AI, turn off AI for our family to switch it off for everyone. To change it for one person, open them in the Family tab and turn their AI helpers on or off. AI starts off for kids under 13. Events and tasks added by or including someone with AI or suggestions off aren't sent to the AI model for suggestions.

The AI got something wrong.

AI can misread dates and details, which is why Hivetime always shows you what it found before saving. Fix anything before adding it, and if it keeps happening with a certain kind of calendar or recipe, use Report a bug so we can improve it.

Subscription

What does the subscription include?

Everything. There's one plan, billed monthly ($5.49) or yearly ($57.99, 12% less), and it covers everyone in your Hivetime family.

I subscribed but Hivetime still asks me to.

Open the subscription screen in Hivetime and tap Restore while signed in to the Apple Account you used to subscribe. If your co-parent subscribed, make sure you're both in the same Hivetime family.

How do I cancel?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Hivetime, then Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app doesn't cancel the subscription.

Notifications and data

I'm not getting notifications.

Check that notifications are allowed for Hivetime in your iPhone's Settings, then check Settings, then Notifications in Hivetime, where you choose how early you're reminded before events and whether you get time to leave alerts. Focus modes can also hold notifications.

How do I download my data?

In Hivetime, go to Settings, then Privacy and data, and tap Download my data. Hivetime puts together a file with your account and family data, then lets you save it or share it.

How do I delete my account?

In Hivetime, go to Settings, then Privacy and data, then Delete my account, and tap Delete account and data. Full details, including what happens to your family's data, are on the delete your account page.
